                                         Feb 2025

The recognition of Dr. Shelley Amuh with the C.F. Stradford Award is significant, especially during Black History Month. It highlights the ongoing legacy of black leadership and advocacy in both the legal and community realms.

Cornelius Francis Stradford was a pioneering civil rights attorney and a co-founder of both the National Bar Association and the Cook County Bar Association.  C.F. Stradford. was also the legal representative for his father, J.B. Stradford, during the Tulsa race riots. In 1921, he was the lead counsel representing African-Americans defendants, following the race riots of Tulsa, Oklahoma. J.B. Stradford was a prominent member of the African American community, serving as an attorney and as the owner of the only black hotel in Tulsa.
